Man United among transfer suitors for Rayan Cherki

Manchester United got a close look at the superb talent of Lyon star Rayan Cherki at Old Trafford last night.

The Frenchman scored in a crazy Europa League quarter-final tie, which eventually saw Man Utd scrape through with a dramatic late comeback in extra time.

Cherki certainly showed his qualities throughout this tie, and it seems United are now one of the top clubs keen on signing him this summer.

The Red Devils are joined by rivals Liverpool in the race for Cherki’s signature, as well as Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, according to the Daily Mail.

The report also states that United were really keen on Cherki when he was still a teenager, with the player even visiting their Carrington training complex at that time.

Cherki looks like the kind of talent worth gambling on, with the 21-year-old lighting up Ligue 1 this season with an impressive tally of eight goals and nine assists, whilst picking up another four goals and eight assists in the Europa League.

That’s 29 goal contributions in total in all competitions, and he’s also just generally a joy to watch with his skilful and technical style of play.

The Mail note that Cherki is a bit of a maverick, though, and he’s divided opinion in the past due to some of the people around him.

Cherki seems to be proving some of his critics wrong this season, but one has to wonder if he’ll be able to keep on performing consistently.

MUFC also need to be careful about the kind of egos they bring to the club as that’s something that’s previously hurt them.

Cherki is in great form now, but it remains to be seen how well he’d cope with the pressure of a big price tag and playing for an ambitious Premier League club.
